My passion for tall ships led to an obsession with the oldest clipper ship in the world, City of Adelaide aka HMS Carrick. When she was taken to Adelaide, South Australia on the deck of cargo ship MV Palanpur, I went with her. The voyage took 70 days and I wrote the journey's events in tandem with that of a young woman who was on the maiden voyage in 1864. I am writing the experience in a book which incorporates the lead up to the ship leaving Scotland, her renaming by the Duke of Edinburgh in Greenwich and the voyage of 22,000 km from Rotterdam to Australia, and includes interviews with a variety of people involved with her recovery, family and historical connections with her etc. I have given illustrated talks around the country and in Australia of my exceptional experience.

I am a  poet, published in anthologies and on-line, and have been invited to submit for my first pamphlet. A few lines of one poem are being incorporated into a sculpture for my local harbour, which I'm really thrilled about. All involved with the sculpture were interviewed for BBC Radio Scotland Culture Studio. The same poem is a FilmPoem commissioned from Alastair Cook.

I have a series of stories and plays for children which have been broadcast on radio and performed on stage, and trialled in a couple of schools. One of the stories is currently under consideration for publication. I wrote a script in Scots, English and French which was commissioned by the Battle of Prestonpans Trust. We travelled to Bayeux and performed in the Bayeux Museum courtyard and around the streets to highlight that the BoP Tapestry was visiting the Bayeux Tapestry.

In 2012 I completed The Academy of Children's Writers course in Writing for Children.

I carried out poetry workshops in schools with P1-P5 as part of the Curriculum for Excellence from 2009-2012.

I live in south-east Scotland in the foothills of the Lammermuirs, and love to be near the sea. In a previous life I worked as a secretary/administrator within local government, national charities, local charities, businesses and am now a freelance writer. My office background gave me the opportunity to give up formal employment by taking a commission to type up a large handwritten manuscript for a woman I met.

My other interests include playing the clarsach (lever harp), sailing and horseriding. I have three children in their 30s, and one grandchild.
