An award-winning writer of fiction, short stories, novels and picture books, nominated for the Carnegie Medal 2017.

Miriam Moss is an award-winning writer of fiction, short stories, novels and picture books. Her novel, Girl on a Plane, a fictionalised account of a hijack she was involved in as a schoolgirl returning from the Middle East, has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal 2017. It was published in the UK by Andersen Press/Penguin Random House, and in the US by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Her latest picture book is Dr Molly's Medicine Case, published by Walker Books. Other picture books include: Matty takes Off (Andersen), Bare Bear (Hodder), Wibble Wobble  (Orchard), I Forgot to Say I Love You! (Macmillan), Bad Hare Day (Bloomsbury), and This is the Reef (Frances Lincoln).

Miriam grew up in Africa, China and The Middle East before living in England. After graduating, she taught English until the arrival of her first child, when she started to write. She has broad experience of working creatively with children, young people and adults throughout the UK and abroad.

Miriam has broad experience of working creatively with children, young people and adults, speaking regularly in schools and at events at home and abroad. She is currently taking bookings for:                                                                               

Primary School writing workshops and interactive picture book sessions.            Writing workshops and talks for Secondary students and adults.

The talk on her novel, Girl On A Plane, includes a 5 minute film (putting the 1970s and the hijack in context) a short PowerPoint talk on life writing, focussing on the issue of refugees and the Arab-Israeli conflict for use in PSHE and history, a reading and Q & A.
